Back In Time

11 July 2012

curve of boardwalk seemingly mimicked by curve of cloud
in the distance naked poplar one stands alone
as if shunned by three youngest

The Historic Village
a place where time is being captured in the buildings

I love the contrast of cream weather board
navy blue and black trimmings of window and two double doors

old farm machinery a tiller perhaps
red wagon wheels and light blue long curved tines
a skeleton from the past

Leyland O'Brien
looking almost steamy
bizarre tractor with canopy

Forresters Hall
Like an old school bank love it's window arches and arched cove
The roof facade an odd crown

Here again odd crowns of peaks and lines
Old school two storey with its nice sized verandah

The cobbled road adds to the Spaghetti Western feel.
Lets hope these doesn't fall down!

Another classic from a past I never knew but often romanticized about.
Another lovely veranda and the covered walk is great.

My Aunty was married in this church many years ago when I was a kid
I love the white walls and the red roof
I do wonder though what the turret is for

A wagon wheel back seat cosy enough for two.
Old school love seat?

Here more odd facades veranda and an old hexagonal red telephone box.
I love the contrasting blue bench seat against the shop.

The telephone box like a sleeping Time Lord.

Back to the now what a difference straight flat with minimal fuss
Accented with blue white and greys of curve
making diamonds.

Seventh Day Adventist
Their turret or spire has a silver ball on it's tip.
I imagine many things as to it's relevance.

Seagull Study

06 July 2012

red billed and ready to grab the smallest morsel

caught in flight landing wings high and forward
tipped black and white ends

coming in for landing
body at 45 degrees red legs forward and down
red bill parallel light grey wings back

they flock and fight over every crumb
opportunists everyone

captured in flight like fallen angels
scavenging from humans

a different bird different landing technique
body almost horizontal wings near vertical
red legs limp red bill pointing down

more than a dozen they amass a squawk and squeak
comedians with wings feathers all a fluff

final shot front on landing
wings illuminated looking ethereal

Mc Larens Falls

19 January 2012

One of a handful of swims last summer due to low temps.

over boulders spills water white into little pools carved over time

the lad stands wet but happy a little upon the edge
behind and below water falls into rock pools

the boulders curve shaped as cups water flows into effervescent white
clears and moves on after the excitement

above the swimming hole I stand a birds eye view reveals the depth
and shape of the rocks over which we swim many depths

back on level ground deep green/brown swim hole
boulders larger than I jut from either side forest fringe's the banks

a tree long passed reaches out from forest over awesome rock
it hangs stark white against dark water it's reflected

rocks cut seemingly from circle cookie cutter capture the flow
before it joins the greater pool dark water light rock

water white as it streams between rocks all shapes & sizes over under trunk of tree
smooth surfaces sharp edges, wet dry, tones dark and light natures contradiction

through water clear see holes where little rocks hide
natives grow along the edge

in the distance trees stand tall on the hill
a closer cluster of pine tower
over main swimming hole boulders rest as water runs

the lad looks small on the mighty rocks
he contrasts nicely against the green scape and gray ground

on a lone rock he perches ready to take a leap and not get wet

gnarled roots from dry ground rise to hinder those who admire the canopy

a puzzled trunk of dappled textures lines of curves
spotted skin mossy and lichened, grays and woody reds

Sunday 5 Feb 2012

nasturtium orange trumpets flow free a wild riot

calendula a stunning miniature mimic of a sunflower

through burgundy and mauve butterfly bloom
heaven scent sweet pea

the boy lithe on gnarled pohutukawa branches high my feet tingle

gray of sand distant horizon
cumulus clouds and alto cumulus clouds part
 a picture in blue sky

a sand dollar so simple yet close up so intricate in structure in pattern

a spirula inner I did find a creature rarely seen whole alive
